This town is located 120 km to the southeast of San Jose. It is a stop-over for travelers heading towards the beaches in the south. The town has every convinience you might need: banks, hotels, restaurants, internet access, gas station, etc.

The main tourist attractions are around the foothills of the Talamanca mountains - especially the Cerro de la Muerte (Buena Vista) and Chirripó National Park which is over 3,000 meters high.

How to get there

By car: from San Jose take the Panamerican Highway south. After passing a toll booth and the exit to Tres Rios keep driving up the hill (Ochomogo) and once you are descending stay on the highway turning right and then straight ahead. Keep driving straight towards San Isidro del General. You will see the sign with the name "S. Isidro Gral". Continue the road passing el Tejar, El Empalme. From el Empalme continue the road to the highest point call "Cerro de la Muerte". Continue straight ahead south on the Panamerican Highway.

By bus:
From San Jose: Tracopa-Alfaro Bus Station. Buses leave everyhour from 5:00am to 6:00pm. Phone: 222-2666. The ride takes around 3 hours.
